Muscle pain while playing power chords?
I have been playing guitar for 6 years (since I was 14) and I used to only play electric, but I switched to acoustic about 4 years ago. I practice about 3-4 times a week when im not busy with school. I am writing a song for my best friend's baby shower and decided to play an octave chord on the 9th fret. Doing this for some reason is causing my left thumb to hurt horribly near the joint that connects to my hand and also between my thumb and index finger after like 3 minutes. I have to grip the neck a little harder to play this higher chord, but its not like im gripping it so tight my neck is going to break... thats what it feels like im doing according to my thumb. What the heck is going on and how can i prevent it? Ive tried holding with my thumb in a different position, but then I can't get the note to sound right. The song isnt perfected and the shower is in 2 weeks so im desperate!
Borrow a guitar with better action...
My favorite guitar requires practically NO pressure to fret properly.
